Response to blog comment

A person named, “Orangepetal,” commented on my Huffington Post article. My response follows…

Orangepetal,

Thank you for taking the time to read my article. My first recommendation for the President-elect or anyone else interested in improving education is to appoint competent thoughtful accomplished educators to set policy. America is loaded with them. American learning theorists and brilliant school-level practitioners inspire educators across the globe.

While I am under no obligation to write any more than I have already done on the subject, I will attempt to write some cogent recommendations for school reform over the holidays. Of course, it is impossible to cover such a complex issue in this forum.

In the meantime, there is a large collection of my work and ideas represented at http://www.stager.org/articles.html

Happy holidays,

Gary

  1. Why don’t you all stop squawking and start debating your issues constructively. I bet we all(teachers, parents, school leaders and anyone else invested in education) could actually be fairly innovative and produce many solutions to the problems that plague our nation’s public schools. I have made an attempt to create such a forum for people to participate in this critical debate. It is located online at http://educationdebate.blogspot.com Unfortunately, since launching this debate some four weeks ago, we have received very little input. It is so sad that we can all point fingers to the cause but when it comes time to put up or shut up… well, silence. Too bad. We were planning to collate the results of this debate the weekend before the inauguration and submit a set of recommendations for improving public education in the 21st Century with hopes of having some influence over the next Secretary of Education’s agenda and vision. This document would be made FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE instead of some lobbyists who have the interest of all but the children at heart. Come on folks, we are at a tipping point. If we don’t get education right now, we will not have a viable democracy tomorrow. Get involved, be constructive and be heard! If Obama’s election means nothing else, it inspires participation. He can’t do it alone.

  2. @concerned parent: Just because you build it doesn’t mean they’ll come. I’m sorry you’re not getting any traffic but that probably reflects 1) the fact that there are way too many information sources out there to follow, and 2) your marketing rather than people’s unwillingness to “put up or shut up.” Good luck!
