As we congratulate ourselves for voting for an African American, we ought to recognize that ignorance and bigotry remain a large stain on the American fabric.

He certainly would be disqualified if he were. Extensive polls and studies show that most Americans would not vote for a Jewish president. The vast majority said they would never vote for a Muslim president, and almost none were willing to vote for an atheist.

Too bad fear and bias is such an effective motivator. Too bad it is starting to crop up its ugly head in this election, because I think a lot of voters are tired of it.
