<\/a>Recommendations for Milano and Bologna<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you drive anywhere, you must stop at some AutoGrills along the highway. They are rest areas with cheap fantastic food and crazy items for sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milano<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our favorite restaurant in Milan is\u00a0Da Oscar<\/strong>.<\/a> It is not to be missed. You should go as often as you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no way to book online. You need to show up. Lunch and after 9 PM are your best chance without a reservation. Get the Veal Milanese and Penne alla Oscar to share. As Maria, Oscar\u2019s daughter asked me the first time I went there alone, \u201cWould you like a half portion? A full one is impossible.\u201d<\/em> Get a bottle of the house wine with Il Duce on the label. I am not making this up. If you go around 9 PM for dinner, you\u2019re likely to encnounter the roving musicians. They now have two locations. We’ve only ever been to the one in Porta Venezia. We also LOVE Ristorante Pizzeria Rosy e Gabriele<\/strong>. It is open until 2:30 AM, caters to families, businessmen, punks, and guys cheating on their wives. The food selection and quality has no business being this good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch options \u2013 Salsamenteria di Parma<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wine in bowls. Fantastic meats and cheeses. (Culatello is the Rolls Royce of Prosciutto) and agnolotti in brodo. Not far from the Duomo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are amazing street food, pizza, gelato, and chocolate shops 2 minutes from the Duomo within 50 yards of this legend. Be sure to wander a block or two away from the Duomo (or any popular area in Italy) to find great treasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakfast or snacks – An unbelievably fantastic bakery – Zuccerho e Sale<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A spectacular bakery in the Porta Venezia neighborhood. The cloud cake is to die for. They have salads, pizza slices, and other savory stuff too. Coffee as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We buy approximately 4X more pastries than we need most days. Visit every morning or afternoon. This may be the best bakery on earth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Italian diner \u2013 Ristorante Pizzeria Rosy e Gabriele<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We LOVE this place. It\u2019s open past midnight and has a big menu, bar, fresh seafood, and woodfired oven pizza. Imagine a New Jersey diner in Milan with waiters in bow ties, killer pizza, and a lobster tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make multiple reservations the minute you get to Bologna. This is our favorite restaurant (dinner – lunch too most days) It’s a very fine Bolognese trattoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell Colombo, the head waiter, that I sent you. Seriously! They love Mr. Gary.

The best meat\/cheese\/antipasto place on the planet. Great for lunch or dinner. Good place to buy Balsamic vinegar and cheese to take home. Even Stanley Tucci takes our advice and recommends it. Buy Balsamic Vinegar here to bring home or use as gifts. Gelato that will change your life. Open late. I went after 11 PM six nights\/week. <\/strong>Accept no substitutes. It is seriously worth the 5 minute walk from Pizza Maggiore. The squares around it are fantastic too.  https:\/\/www.cremeriacavour.it\/en\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marsalino<\/strong> \u2013 Wine bar with great cheap pasta across the street from our apartment, right near The Cat. We recently started eating here regularly. It is fantastic and really down market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
