{"id":514,"date":"2009-07-04T09:06:33","date_gmt":"2009-07-04T14:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stager.tv\/?p=514"},"modified":"2020-07-25T18:59:53","modified_gmt":"2020-07-25T23:59:53","slug":"our-gettysburg-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stager.tv\/?p=514","title":{"rendered":"Our Gettysburg Address?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On our nation&#8217;s Independence Day, I humbly offer <a title=\"Our Gettysburg Address\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.state.ak.us\/exec-column.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this text<\/a> for historians interested in understanding early 21st Century America (because I surely can&#8217;t).<\/p>\n<p>Paul Begala reviews the text elegantly in <a title=\"Begala\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/paul-begala\/sarah-palin-turns-pro_b_225633.html\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his column<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Let&#8217;s stipulate that if there is some heretofore unknown personal, medical or family crisis, this was the right move. But Gov. Palin didn&#8217;t say anything like that. Her statement was incoherent, bizarre and juvenile. The text, as posted on Gov. Palin&#8217;s official website (<a title=\"Palin speech text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.state.ak.us\/exec-column.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>), uses 2,549 words and 18 exclamation points. Lincoln freed the slaves with 719 words and nary an exclamation; Mr. Jefferson declared our independence in 1,322 words and, again, no exclamation points. Nixon resigned the presidency in 1,796 words &#8212; still no exclamation points. Gov. Palin capitalized words at random &#8211; whole words, like &#8220;TO,&#8221; &#8220;HELP,&#8221; and &#8220;AND,&#8221; and the first letter of &#8220;Troops.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Watch the spectacular <a title=\"fantastic video\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/shannyn-moore\/sarah-palin-resigns-as-al_b_225515.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press conference video<\/a>.
