Gary Stager, an internationally recognized educator, speaker and consultant, is the CEO of Constructing Modern Knowledge<\/a>. Since 1982, Gary has helped learners of all ages on six continents embrace the power of computers as intellectual laboratories and vehicles for self-expression. He led professional development in the world’s first laptop schools (1990), has designed online graduate school programs since the mid-90s, was a collaborator in the MIT Media Lab’s Future of Learning Group and a member of the One Laptop Per Child Foundation’s Learning Team.<\/p>\n

Dr. Stager\u00a0is co-author of\u00a0Invent To Learn \u2013 Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom,<\/a>\u00a0called the \u201cbible of the maker movement in schools,\u201d by Larry Magid of CBS and The San Jose Mercury News.<\/p>\n

When Jean Piaget wanted to better understand how children learn mathematics, he hired Seymour Papert. When Dr. Papert wanted to create a high-tech alternative learning environment for incarcerated at-risk teens, he hired Gary Stager. This work was the basis for Gary\u2019s doctoral dissertation and documented Papert\u2019s most-recent institutional research project.<\/p>\n

Dr. Stager\u2019s work has earned a Ph.D. in Science and Mathematics Education and he collaborated on a project that won a Grammy Award. Recently, Gary was invited by Fondazione Reggio Children to lead a public seminar on education in Reggio Emilia, Italy.<\/p>\n

In 1999,\u00a0<\/span>Converge Magazine<\/em>\u00a0named Gary a “shaper of our future and inventor of our destiny.” The National School Boards Association recognized Dr. Stager with the distinction of “20 Leaders to Watch” in 2007. The June 2010 issue of\u00a0<\/span>Tech & Learning Magazine<\/em>\u00a0named Gary Stager as “one of today’s leaders who are changing the landscape of edtech through innovation and leadership.” <\/span>Gary was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Melbourne’s Trinity College several times. An elementary teacher by training, he has taught students from preschool through doctoral studies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gary is also on the advisory board of the NSF-funded project,\u00a0BJC4NYC:\u00a0Bringing a Rigorous Computer Science\u00a0Principles Course to the Largest School System in the US<\/a>. Dr. Stager also maintains the world\u2019s largest archive of text and multimedia by Seymour Papert at The Daily Papert<\/a>.<\/p>\n
